Admissions and Aid

With a unique blend of science, art, technology, design, and business, the Texas A&M Department of Food Science and Technology offers three undergraduate and three graduate degrees to prepare our students for a myriad of diverse professional opportunities. We offer flexible degree plans that allow our students to develop a course of study tailored to their career goals as they prepare to enter one of the largest agricultural industries in the State.

Undergraduate Student Admissions

Incoming Freshmen Admissions

Interested students must submit their application, along with required materials through the university admissions process as detailed at Texas A&M University Office of Admissions. To learn more about the Food Science and Technology major, reach out to an academic advisor at [email protected] to schedule either a virtual or in-person appointment.

Change of Major Admissions

Students are encouraged to contact an academic advisor on the change of major requirements. It is essential to understand the requirements before submitting a change of major request.

Transfer Student Admissions

Students interested in transferring from another university or community college must apply by March 1 for the Summer and Fall semesters and October 15 for the Spring semesters. Students wishing to transfer into the department should follow the transfer course sheet guidelines.

As a transfer applicant, you are required to complete Essay A as part of the application. Please address the following questions in your essay:

  • Why do you want this degree?
  • How will this degree help you meet your career goals?
  • Offer an explanation of excessive (three or more) grades of D, F Q, N/G and/or Ws, if applicable.

Graduate Student Admissions

Our Masters and Ph.D. programs in Food Science and Technology provide advanced training in the basic sciences, processing technology, and food production engineering processes. Students seeking admission to one of our graduate programs should review the Graduate Admissions deadlines, requirements, and procedures. Prospective graduate students are also encouraged to reach out to one of our graduate advisors with any questions about the admissions process.
