Funding an Undergraduate Degree
The Department of Food Science and Technology offers scholarships annually to undergraduate students to help make higher education more affordable and accessible. This funding is made possible by donors and supporters of the department including former students, family and friends, former faculty and industry sponsors.
To be eligible for these scholarships, undergraduate students need to fill out the university scholarship application. Scholarship awards are assessed each year and given based on the need and availability of funds. Eligibility requirements for these scholarships vary. Undergraduate Scholarships
William and Mildred Dafcik Food Science & Technology Scholarship
Town Talk Foods, Ltd. Established this endowment to recognize William and Mildred Dafcik and their commitment to higher education. This award is dedicated to students of high academic standing who are pursuing a career in food safety, food science or technology and preferably to veterans or children of veterans.
Bob Longan Fund for Excellence in Food Technology
In memory of Bob Longan and his longtime career in the Food Science Industry, the Bob Longan Fund for Excellence in Food Technology was established by Frito Lay and PepsiCo Inc. and friends of Bob Longan. This endowment recognizes excellence and leadership in the Food Science and Technology Program.
Karen M. Gremminger ’87 & S. Mark Bullard Endowed Scholarship
Karen Gremminger ’87 and Mark Bullard established this scholarship endowment through the One Spirit One Vision – Texas A&M Campaign. It is to recognize students in the Department of Food Science and Technology based on academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to education.
Kruse Family/Blue Bell Creameries Scholarships
The Blue Bell Creameries/Kruse family scholarships were generously donated in recognition of the Kruse’s commitment to higher education and their love for Texas A&M University. Professor Edward “Ed” Eugene Burns, Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship
Dr. Wai-Kit Nip ’65 and John Dale ’65, Judy Dale, Tiffany Dale ’90, Jason Dale, and Jared Dale donated to Professor Edward “Ed” Eugene Burns Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship in memory of Texas A&M Professor Dr. Edward Eugene Burns. Throughout his career, Dr. Burns authored over one hundred scientific articles and developed the food program of the manned spacecraft efforts of NASA throughout the Apollo flights. This scholarship honors full-time students in good standing pursuing a degree in the Department of Food Science and Technology.
Revolver Brewing Education Endowed Scholarship
The Revolver Brewing Education Endowed Scholarship supports full-time sophomores or juniors in good standing pursuing an undergraduate degree in Food Science & Technology from Texas A&M University. The recipients of this scholarship have expressed interest in brewing science or fermentation.

Mary Pat and Michael J. Bolner ’73 established the endowed scholarship for an undergraduate student pursuing a Food Science and Technology degree.

Jay ’91 and Kimberly Brigham Scholarship
Jay ’91 and Kimberly Brigham established this endowed scholarship for an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in the Department of Food Science & Technology from Texas A&M University. It is to recognize students based on good standing, academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, and financial need.
Jella Family Endowed Scholarship

Texas Food Processors Association
The Texas Food Processors Association (TFPA) instituted an endowment of $40,000 to create scholarships for 2 students/year. These scholarships hope to have transformative impacts in the academic journeys of students, empowering them to pursue their aspirations in Food Science while alleviating their financial burdens.

Non-Resident Tuition Waiver for Undergraduate and Graduate Students
The Competitive Scholarship waiver, authorized under Texas Education Code 54.213a, is an optional waiver that institutions can implement. An eligible non-resident student who holds a competitive academic scholarship of a specified minimum dollar amount for the academic year or summer for which the student is enrolled may be eligible to pay the fees and charges required of Texas residents without regard to the length of time the student has resided in Texas.
